Insurance & Valuation Survey Antigua
Insurance condition and valuation surveys for yachts wintering or chartering in Antigua across November and December 2026 — reports accepted by UK, EU and US underwriters.
What this service involves
Marine insurers writing Caribbean risk almost always require a recent condition and valuation survey before binding or renewing cover. For yachts arriving in Antigua for the winter — whether from the ARC and ARC+ fleets, the US East Coast or the Mediterranean delivery routes — that survey is best done on arrival rather than chasing a slot weeks later.
SVG Marine attends Antigua across November and December 2026 specifically for the insurance and valuation workload generated by transatlantic arrivals and the Antigua Charter Yacht Show. Reports follow IIMS format, include a defensible market valuation and a defects schedule, and are accepted by UK, EU and US marine insurers including Lloyd's underwriters.
The survey covers structure and fabric, deck gear and rig (sailing yachts), engines and machinery installation, electrical systems including 230V shore power and inverter installations, tankage and plumbing, safety and fire-fighting equipment, life-saving appliances and navigation gear. An out-of-water inspection is included as standard for cover periods of more than twelve months.
Combined insurance and pre-purchase work, or insurance and MCA coding work, is common during this window — one mobilisation, one report pack, one fee for the attendance.

Frequently asked questions
When is SVG Marine in Antigua for insurance surveys?
Across November and December 2026, working around the ARC and ARC+ arrivals and the Antigua Charter Yacht Show. Slots in English Harbour, Falmouth Harbour and Jolly Harbour can be booked for those eight weeks.
Will my insurer accept the report?
Yes. SVG Marine surveys are accepted by UK and EU marine insurers, including underwriters at Lloyd's, and by major US yacht insurers. The format follows IIMS guidelines, includes a current market valuation and a defects list, and is issued in PDF with photographic evidence.
Why do insurers ask for a survey before the Caribbean season?
Caribbean cover usually requires a recent condition and valuation survey — often within twelve to twenty-four months of inception. November and December are the natural window for that work as boats arrive from Europe and the US East Coast for the winter charter and cruising season.
What does an insurance survey cover?
Hull, deck, rig and machinery condition; safety and fire equipment; tankage, plumbing and electrical systems; ground tackle; moorings if applicable; replacement cost and current market value. The report categorises items as critical, condition or recommendation.
Do you also issue valuations for finance and divorce or estate purposes?
Yes. Standalone written valuations are available for marine lenders, family-law proceedings, probate and asset disposals. Valuations are based on recent comparable sales and current Caribbean / Mediterranean / UK market data, not just listing prices.
Can you survey while the boat is in the water?
Partial in-water surveys are possible for renewal cover, but most insurers require an out-of-water inspection at least every two cycles. Jolly Harbour Boatyard and the Catamaran Marina haul-out are used for the underwater work in Antigua.
How long until I receive the report?
Five to seven working days from attendance for a standard insurance survey. Urgent turnaround can be accommodated when an underwriting deadline is genuinely tight — flag it at the booking stage.
Do you survey catamarans and large motor yachts?
Yes. Sailing yachts, catamarans and motor yachts up to and beyond 30 metres are all in scope. Larger vessels are normally scheduled over two days with an engineering specialist on hand for the propulsion audit.
