Will my insurer accept the report?
Yes. SVG Marine surveys are accepted by UK and EU marine insurers, including underwriters at Lloyd's, and by major US yacht insurers. The format follows IIMS guidelines, includes a current market valuation and a defects list, and is issued in PDF with photographic evidence.
Why do insurers ask for a survey?
Marine insurers manage their exposure by requiring periodic independent verification of condition and value. Typically a fresh survey is required at the binding of cover, after any major incident, and at intervals based on age and value during the life of a policy.
What does an insurance survey cover?
Hull, deck, rig and machinery condition; safety and fire equipment; tankage, plumbing and electrical systems; ground tackle; replacement cost and current market value. The report categorises items as critical, condition or recommendation.
Do you also issue valuations for finance, divorce or estate purposes?
Yes. Standalone written valuations are available for marine lenders, family-law proceedings, probate and asset disposals. Valuations are based on recent comparable sales and current UK and European market data, not just listing prices.
Can you survey while the boat is in the water?
Partial in-water surveys are possible for short renewal cover, but most insurers require an out-of-water inspection at least every two cycles. In Cardiff, Penarth Marina and the local boatyard travel-lifts are used for the underwater work.

Yes. Sailing yachts, catamarans and motor yachts up to and beyond 24 metres are all in scope. Larger vessels are normally scheduled over two days with an engineering specialist on hand for the propulsion audit.
