Insurance & Valuation Survey Neyland

Insurance condition and valuation surveys for yachts in Neyland and across Neyland Yacht Haven and the Milford Haven Waterway — reports follow IIMS format, include a defensible market valuation and are accepted by UK, EU and US marine insurers.

What this service involves

UK and EU marine insurers writing yacht risk normally require a recent condition and valuation survey before binding cover or renewing on yachts over a certain age — typically every two to five cycles, depending on the underwriter and the value. Neyland owners with policies due for renewal use this window to refresh the certification.

SVG Marine attends Neyland Yacht Haven and the sheltered Milford Haven Waterway regularly for insurance and valuation workload. Reports follow IIMS format, include a defensible market valuation backed by recent comparable sales data, and a defects schedule categorised as critical, condition or recommendation.

The survey covers hull and structure, deck gear and rig (sailing yachts), engines and machinery installation, electrical systems including shore-power and inverter installations, tankage and plumbing, safety and fire-fighting equipment, life-saving appliances and navigation gear. Out-of-water inspection is included as standard for cover periods of more than twelve months.

Combined insurance plus pre-purchase work — or insurance plus MCA coding — is common. One mobilisation, one report pack, one fee for the attendance.

Where we work

Attendances are based at Neyland Yacht Haven on the Milford Haven Waterway, with travel-lift and hardstanding work on site. Moorings off Dale, Lawrenny and Burry Port are handled afloat from the marina. Onward attendance in Milford Marina, Tenby and Pembroke Dock is part of the same trip where the timing works.

Frequently asked questions

Will my insurer accept the report?

Yes. SVG Marine surveys are accepted by UK and EU marine insurers, including underwriters at Lloyd's, and by major US yacht insurers. The format follows IIMS guidelines, includes a current market valuation and a defects list, and is issued in PDF with photographic evidence.

Why do insurers ask for a survey?

Marine insurers manage their exposure by requiring periodic independent verification of condition and value. Typically a fresh survey is required at the binding of cover, after any major incident, and at intervals based on age and value during the life of a policy.

What does an insurance survey cover?

Hull, deck, rig and machinery condition; safety and fire equipment; tankage, plumbing and electrical systems; ground tackle; replacement cost and current market value. The report categorises items as critical, condition or recommendation.

Do you also issue valuations for finance, divorce or estate purposes?

Yes. Standalone written valuations are available for marine lenders, family-law proceedings, probate and asset disposals. Valuations are based on recent comparable sales and current UK and European market data, not just listing prices.

Can you survey while the boat is in the water?

Partial in-water surveys are possible for short renewal cover, but most insurers require an out-of-water inspection at least every two cycles. In Neyland, Neyland Yacht Haven and the local boatyard travel-lifts are used for the underwater work.

How long until I receive the report?

Five to seven working days from attendance for a standard insurance survey. Urgent turnaround can be accommodated when an underwriting deadline is genuinely tight — flag it at the booking stage.

Which Neyland yards and marinas do you cover?

Neyland Yacht Haven, Milford Marina, Pembroke Dock, Lawrenny Yacht Station, Dale, Tenby and Saundersfoot Harbour are all covered routinely. Most surveys are completed at the vessel's existing berth, with the haul-out scheduled separately at the closest available travel-lift.

Do you survey catamarans and large motor yachts?

Yes. Sailing yachts, catamarans and motor yachts up to and beyond 24 metres are all in scope. Larger vessels are normally scheduled over two days with an engineering specialist on hand for the propulsion audit.
